Cuando construimos aplicaciones es importante saber que el trabajo no termina donde termina la implementación, tenemos que buscar formas de asegurarnos de que la misma estará siempre disponible y entregando una experiencia impecable al usuario. Para estos fines, se hace necesario entonces monitorear en búsqueda de errores comunes y frecuentes que hacen que nuestros usuarios tengan una mala experiencia con la misma.
Para monitorear aplicaciones existen una gran variedad de herramientas tanto gratis como de paga. En este post vamos a examinar RollBar, la cual me pareció muy profesional y fácil, ademas de que tiene un nivel gratuito de 5,000 eventos al mes (Porque vamos a estar monitoreando eventos).
Asumimos pues que ya tenemos un aplicación backend hecha en javascript, y queremos comenzar a monitorearla usando RollBar.
Lo primero que necesitamos es crear una cuenta gratuita, o pagada si lo desean, en RollBar, para eso simplemente visiten este link
Cuando iniciamos sesión, lo primero que tenemos que hacer es crear un nuevo proyecto para lo que vamos a monitorear, en el menú superior picamos donde dice “+ new project” y llenamos el form:
Una vez creado el proyecto en RollBar necesitamos configurar el notificador en nuestro propio proyecto, se puede configurar tanto en backend, como en frontend.
Frontend
Para configurar RollBar en el frontend, basta con incluir el script con el access token del cliente en el <head> de nuestra aplicación:

Backend
Para configurar RollBar con el backend, server side o como prefieran llamarlo, primero es necesario instalar el modulo que nos permite hacerlo.

Para ejemplificar un poco, hice una mini aplicación hola mundo con expressJS que envía sus errores a RollBar a través de un middleware provisto por el módulo.

noten que en la ruta principal, enviamos un log ‘Hola Mundo’ a RollBar, esto es porque existen varios niveles a monitorear. Desde simples mensajes hasta errores críticos.

En el anterior segmento, se ven todos los niveles de log disponibles en RollBar. toma como parámetros, el mensaje, el request y un callback para hacer algo después de loggear, como tal vez escribir a un log local (por si las dudas).
Al final de todo, pueden regresar a su TestProject en RollBar y comenzar a revisar las analiticas que estan disponibles.
Conclusión
RollBar es una herramienta fácil de integrar y que provee mucha información acerca de cómo nuestras aplicaciones se desempeñan en producción que de otra manera pasaría desapercibida.
Además para aplicaciones que no son muy concurridas es 100% gratuito.
